I pay a ton for health insurance - will it cover hormone replacement?
Your health insurance may cover some forms of prescription hormone replacement if you meet their coverage criteria, but we are not aware of any that cover pellet therapy. We are happy to work through your health insurance’s requirements if you want to use your coverage for other forms of hormone replacement, but be aware that this may cause delays in your care, your insurance may deny covering your medications despite our recommendation for treatment, you may still have co-pays and/or a deductible, and you may need to use less safe or convenient forms of hormone replacement. We do not accept health insurance for physician services.

Does my health insurance cover anything at B3?

Anything you pick up at a regular pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens has a shot at being covered by your insurance. They may require a prior auth in which case we are happy to submit the required paperwork and work through their process. Be aware that this may cause delays and you still may have co-pays or a deductible.

We are also happy to submit your lab work to insurance if you prefer, but you may end up paying more (via co-pay, deductible, or non-coverage) if you use insurance. You may ask why you even have insurance, and we wonder the same thing. If we think of health insurance like your homeowner insurance, it makes more sense. If your house gets knocked over, your insurance is there, but it doesn’t pay for basic maintenance or any of the comforts that make your house a home.

I’m a female but I don’t think I’m in menopause yet. I feel like something’s off. Can I still check my hormone levels?

Absolutely. Peri-menopause can start early, last for years, and be very tricky to navigate. We also look into other hormones like thyroid and testosterone, and general medical conditions like obesity and metabolic syndrome can throw things off at any age. While pellet therapy is great for menopause, shorter-acting replacements like patches or topical gels may be a better fit while things are still in flux.

I’m a male and still want to have kids one day. Can I receive testosterone therapy?

Yes and no. Direct testosterone replacement can cause permanent infertility in a small percentage of men, so we first have to acknowledge that risk. There are other ways to increase your testosterone without direct testosterone replacement, but banking sperm is also an option if that hasn’t worked out or you are willing to accept that risk.

I don’t want to be billed for a B3 Medical Membership - can I still get hormone replacement?

Absolutely! Hormone replacement alone is enough to get many patients back on track, and for them, pellet therapy leads to smooth sailing for months at a time. In that case, after we establish a stable pellet pattern, we will see you for your pellet visits (usually 2-3 times a year) and require only one annual check-up visit ($150) to make sure we are still treating you safely and effectively.

Does a B3 Medical Membership cover hormone replacement?

Yes and no. Membership covers all office visits related to hormone replacement, but medications including the pellets themselves are excluded. We try to keep pellet prices as low as possible already!
