How do Neurotoxins work?

Neurotoxins are injected in very small amounts into very specific areas of the body. For fine lines and wrinkles, this usually means in the forehead and around the eyes after a careful mapping by your injector. They stay in the body for only a few days to weaken or paralyze muscles that cause folding and wrinkling of skin just like a piece of paper. These effects last for several months while the muscles slowly wake up.

Is Neurotoxin safe?

The neurotoxins we use, Botox and Dysport, are generally very safe in appropriate doses. During your complimentary consultation with one of our providers, we will ask your medical history. If you have a condition that makes neurotoxin more risky, we will discuss your individualized risks and benefits before deciding if neurotoxin is right for you. Don’t worry – that’s what we’re here for!

Do Neurotoxin injections hurt?

Short answer: yes. Less-short answer: a lot less than you might think. Tiny needles and good technique go a long way to minimize discomfort. While we offer topical numbing and other pain control measures, most patients do not feel this is necessary. A few seconds of discomfort for a few months of benefit is a pretty good trade if you ask us.

What can I expect after treatment?

Benefits from neurotoxin take up to two weeks to fully kick in. Because everyone responds a little differently to neurotoxin, we recommend our patients return in two weeks for re-evaluation. Occasionally, we will recommend little tweaks – on us, of course – to make sure our patients have the best outcome now and to help us perfect their treatments moving forward.
